we took a 4 month old Great Dane puppy for a 1.5-2 mile walk not knowing they shouldn’t walk like that.  he seemed fine after but did we cause any harm

The primary reason it is not recommended to walk puppies for too long is due to their immune system not being fully developed.  However, once they are 16 weeks old, they are generally okay to be in public places and go for long walks.  In general, it’s okay to let your puppy walk for as long as they want to walk.  If they are showing any signs of exercise intolerance or not wanting to walk through.  Here is an article on how much to walk your dog if you would like more information on the topic:  https://www.vetbabble.com/dogs/health-dogs/exercise-dogs/
