Hello,

This morning, my wife and I woke to find Lola, our 5 year old female cat behaving differently which has us quite worried because we both recognize these symptoms from when our previous cats had Urinary Tract Infections which came very close to being fatal.

Lola was lying in her litterbox this morning, when we tried to get her to stop, she would keep going back looking like she wants to relieve herself but either not going or just pooping a little which is why we first thought she was just experiencing some constipation.

Then we felt her lower abdomen and it seems inflammed, when we touch it she acts like it hurts or is uncomfortable.

She hasn’t urinated or tried to yet today and seems lethargic and tries to clean herself constantly. She has some weight issues and has not been able to reach her rear to properly clean in almost a year now.

We currently cannot afford vet treatments right now so we are very worried. I read that apple cider vinegar could help as well as cranberry extract or d-mannose, so I picked up a cranberry complex suppliment for humans (containing cranberry extract: 25:1/450mg Vaccinium macrocarpon fruit, also containing D-Mannose: 50mg, also: Dicalcium Phosphate, Gelatin, vegetable magnesium stearate, silica, calcium silicate) and an Apple Cider Vinegar suppliment also for humans (Containing: Apple cider vinegar powder 500mg, Potassium 300mcg, Boron 4mcg).

Is it safe to give her mixed in some tuna and will this be a good idea/possibly clear her UTI? If so, how much should I give her?

I also have some probiotic human suppliments, I also read probiotics may help. (Containing: Lactobacillus casei 0.4 billion/CFU, Lactobacillus paracasei 0.3 billion/CFU, Lactobacillus plantarum 0.3 billion/CFU. Also: ascorbic acid, hypromellose, skim milk, magnesium stearate, potato starch, sucrose, trypticase soy-broth, yeast extract).

We are really worried and want to act fast as we know the severity of a feline UTI. We would very much appreciate any input or reccomendation from a professional.

Thank you very much,

Calvin, Erica and Lola

Based on the described symptoms, it sounds like you should go to a veterinarian right away as there is nothing that could be done to help via internet advice alone.   The symptoms you describe could also be a number of other issues

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI’s) almost always need antibiotics to help them clear or they can get very serious and ascend all the way into the kidneys and into the main blood supply.  There are supplements that are sometimes taken such as cranberry supplements, but they are more preventative than for treatments.

If you do not have the funds, just let your veterinarian know this and they will help come up with the best possible plan based on your situation.
