my cat ate a string and I read online that if I gave him a bit of hydrogen peroxide he wiykd throw it up but he hasn’t and I’m getting scared. Please help!!!
Linear foreign bodies (AKA cats eating string) are definitely something to be concerned about and one of the most common foreign bodies ingested in cats. Here is an article on foreign bodies in general:
As the article mentions, with strings, it can cause the intestines to become plicated (or bunched up) Oftentimes, when cats eat string, it can be caught around the tongue which can lead to further complications. If you see the string around the tongue, it is not recommended to dislodge it without first seeing a veterinarian. If the string is only partially coming out, it is also not recommended to pull on the string. It is strongly encouraged to go to the veterinarian as linear foreign bodies can be life-threatening. It is even more important to see a veterinarian if you see any digestive issues such as vomiting or diarrhea (regardless if your cat has passed the string as it might not have passed all of it) Your vet may recommend x-rays to check the digestive tract and if there are issues, surgery may be warranted.
