My dog was recently diagnosed with lymphoma we didn’t have a full biopsy done it was just an initial cell scraping of one of his tumors. Both lymph nodes in his neck had developed tumors one ulcerated and was the size of a tennis ball. We started him on the Prednisone about two weeks ago and the tumors are practically gone. Is this normal for lymphoma or is it possible he was miss diagnosed?
The best way to confirm a diagnosis of lymphoma is by performing histopathology on biopsy. However, it is possible to diagnose lymphoma from a fine needle aspirate as well.
As for your question regarding the prednisone: Lymphoma is generally very responsive to prednisone. However, it generally does not increase survival times of the disease and its use is generally considered palliative and for the comfort of the patient.
However, I cannot confirm if your dog had lymphoma and truly hope that it was misdiagnosed as it is a terrible disease.
