I have a rescue puppy, about 5 months old, German Shepard/husky mix as far as we can tell, and he keeps having diarrhea. It cleared up a couple times but it’s there more often than not. There was a few times I saw what looked like a grey sludge in it, but only a couple times. Every other time it just looks like his food has been ran in a blender, no foreign objects or discoloration. I’m feeding him diamond natural, large puppy brand, 3cups a day, he’s between 25-30lbs, has plenty of energy and isn’t showing any signs that would make me worry except the diarrhea. Only thing he chews besides his toys are leaves and sticks (has an odd obsession with leaves) and I’ve been keeping those away from him to see if that helps. No luck yet

Intermittent diarrhea in puppies can be caused by many things aside from foreign bodies.  These include worms or other parasites such as giardia, bacterial diarrhea, sensitivities to food, bacterial infection, or a number of other causes such as food allergies, etc. For more information about the causes of diarrhea, I recommend this article:

It is especially important that your dog is vaccinated and dewormed properly as these are probably the most common preventable causes of diarrhea in puppies.  Parasites are common causes as they go through various life cycles, some of which cause diarrhea and some of which do not.  Here is an article about worms in dogs for more information:

As it has been going on for a while though, it is important that you visit a veterinarian so they can help you rule out these causes, that your dog is properly dewormed and vaccinated and help you find the underlying cause to help you get the appropriate treatment.
