I just adopted a kitten about a week ago. Noticed his anus area is bigger then normal. I’m not sure if his anus is connected to his penis? He is about 10 weeks, eating normal wet kitten food. peeing and pooping normal, but tends to lick a lot down there. Also noticed a red gland like by his rectum. Is this a rectal prolapse? If anyone has some insight as to what this might be, I’ll greatly appreciate it. Will get him to see a vet this week. Thanks! Cheryl

Given the age, having signs like this could either be a result of parasites such as worms and causing secondary rectal prolapse, a genetic deffect, or another cause that will only be apparent on an exam.  Definitely make sure you go to a veterinarian though as it could be something serious that needs treatment quickly.
