I have a bit of a bet going on. Could a guinea pig eat a frozen, defrosted blueberry occasionally?

I am told that it will kill the piggy, cause bloat, and destroy the world.

Ive done it occasionally- the pig is still alive, not bloated and the world hasn’t ended yet. But that doesn’t prove anything. Do you have any authoritative information? I haven’t found anything substantial online.

Blueberries are great treats for Guinea Pigs as they are rich in Vitamin C.  They do have a lot of sugar though should not be a main part of the diet and should be reserved as treats (for more information on what to feed your cavy, check out this article here on Guinea Pig Care)   You should be primarily feeding Timothy Hay based pellets to your guinea pig.

So, to answer your question directly, feeding too many Blueberries could result in your guinea pig getting overweight if that is what you mean by getting bloated 🙂  However, it will not kill your guinea pig so long as it is getting enough nutrition from a healthy diet otherwise.  If you feed a single blueberry a few times a week though, it is not a health concern.
